I had someone come up to me recently who told me that they could never move their family overseas to do ministry. I was shocked. And probably not for the reason you think. I was shocked because I had always thought the same about her: I could never, ever be a special ed teacher. Or a preschool teacher. Or a corporate so and so. Because working those jobs terrify me. The weird part is that I WANT these gifts.
After listening to our college pastor, his statement of, “our (spiritual) gifts are irrevocable” hit me hard. What??? We can’t trade our spiritual gifts? For ones that we deem better? But I WANT to be a talented seamstress who blesses others with her quilting abilities. But I WANT to love taking care of babies and the elderly. Those are the best gifts! So revered, so esteemed. Man! Ok…yeah, I’ll move to another country. Wow for me. Wooo?!
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not looking for validation here. I want to make a point: WE HAVE ALL BEEN GIVEN SPECIFIC GIFTS TO EDIFY AND LIFT UP ONE ANOTHER. And, wouldn’t it be great if we could stop focusing on the *seemingly* lesser gifts God has given us to the *seemingly* better gift He’s given someone else?? Can you imagine the impact we’d have on our world???
I’m making it a personal challenge to really appreciate and USE the very specific gifts God has given me, Erin. And, yes…..you can hold me accountable!
Yay! We sold our house and are currently looking for a rental for the next 6 months. It is exciting to see God at work as He orchestrates exactly who should buy our house and where we should live for the interim. So far the kids are doing well with all of the transition. We would love continued prayer for them.
We spoke with the superintendent at Rift Valley Academy last week and we are excited about the possibilities for us there. The option to be dorm parents for jr high girls is a little daunting but we can see how it would be a good fit for our skills and our family dynamics. Please pray for the school and for us as decisions are made for our placement. Again, it brings us so much joy to see how God is working all things together.
-The sale of our house!
– positive transition for the kids
– speaking engagement at First Baptist Church Davis on February 16
– rental home in the area
– financial support (we are currently at 5%)

The calendar says that it is 2014 now, which means that another year of major changes for our family is upon us. No longer is our return to Kenya “next year,” but now is in just over 6 months. We have a lot to do in the next couple of months. We continue to work with our realtor and have open houses. Hopefully with the new year, the housing market will pick up and we will be able to sell it quickly.
For support raising, we are moving along slowly. We currently have pledges for about 5% of our monthly support. We continue to trust that the Lord will bring in the needed support as He already knows where it will come from.
With the new year, we are also setting up speaking engagements to share about the ministry of RVA so that we can partner and share this mission opportunity with others. If you would like to have us come to your church, small group or other gathering and share about our ministry, please contact us at email@example.com
We are so excited about this new phase of our ministry process! We’d love your prayer on our behalf as we continue to strive for God’s ultimate plan through faith that can only come from Him.
As always, we know that we cannot pursue this ministry without your encouragement. Thank you for your words, notes, emails, fb posts and overall positive words.
